Bittersweet Release

What small comfort it is,
To release you from your promise,
Which you neglected so,
The ties that bind us,
Felt instead like a noose.

When I close my eyes,
Your phantom smile appears,
Causing me such pain,
Almost as much,
As your constant frowning.

There is something to be said,
About being able to cut the threads,
Of a dying relationship.
But it still hurts,
To know you still exist.
