The Three Loves of M. Renard

The First Love is Adoration,
You led me by the hand,
Companion of my youth,
Such artful passion,
Like a compass true:
Your dreams, your love, your life.
I wept when they left you,

The Second Love is for Passion,
My eager dilettante,
Balm for this broken fool,
Laughing, alluring,
With a smile so cruel,
How could I have been shocked,
To find your love untrue?

The Third is for Gentle Kindness,
The comfort of a friend,
The rare remaining few,
With a knowing touch,
And embrace to soothe,
While whispers in their kiss,
Say they will leave you, too.
